We will have some demos and activities as well as examples from workshops, artwork, and paper by our members available for purchase. We will also have a small exhibition of artwork by Melinda Cross


Marbling Workshop at Gallery 263

Tuesday December 8 7-10 (This class will be held at Gallery 263 on Pearl street and Putnam Ave. in Cambridge)

Come make magnificent papers in Cambridge! Have you ever wondered how the end papers in old books were made? Marbling is a techniques used to make decorative papers and fine art. Ink is floated on water, or a viscous size and manipulated with surface tension to create an image or pattern, then contact print it on paper. In this workshop participants will explore several different kinds of marbling. Experimentation will be encouraged, patterns as well as figured techniques will be demonstrated.

Pulp Party

Friday December 11 6-8pm

Experience papermaking in a more social environment, bring friends and experiment with a new medium. A quick introduction to papermaking will be followed by free time at several vats with regular and colored pulps. Bring anything you want to include in the finished sheet.

Holiday Cards

December 12, 1-4 pm

It’s that time of year, with the holidays right around the corner, come in and make all the cards you will need. In this workshop, we will cover basic sheet forming, and ways of creating decorated cards. With pulp painting stencils can be created, or use old cookie cutters to create blocks of color to detailed imagery. Embedding will also be covered, bring in printed text or dried flowers, which will become part of the finished sheet.

Cast Paper Decorations and Ornaments

December 13 4-6pm

Paper can be thin and flat, or it can be thick and sculptural. In this workshop participants will learn about casting paper into shapes.Participants will cast paper into pre made moulds, and learn how to make their own moulds for use at home.
